Thursday Mariners Museum

The Mariners’ Museum and Park in Newport News, VA, has a little something for everybody – or maybe a lot! It is one of the largest maritime museums in North America, with a rich collection of artifacts that includes the turret of the USS Monitor. At the same time, the museum is also home to the largest privately-owned, free, public park in North America.

The Mariners’ Museum is so prestigious that Congress designated it as America’s National Maritime Museum. The museum collection contains over 35,000 artifacts, including maritime paintings, working steam engines, carved figureheads, scrimshaw, ship models, and so much more.

The Mariners’ Museum Library is the largest maritime collection in the western hemisphere and one of the most comprehensive in the world. The collection contains hundreds of thousands of international documents and photos, dating back to the 1500s.

Friday MacArthur Memorial and Spirit of Norfolk Cruise

The MacArthur Memorial is a museum and research center dedicated to preserving and presenting the story of the life of General of the Army Douglas MacArthur.

The Memorial also pays tribute to the millions of men and women who served with General MacArthur in World War I, World War II, and the Korean War.

Situated in downtown Norfolk, VA the Memorial consists of a museum, archive and research center, education center, theater, welcome center, and a gift shop. A visit to the Memorial will allow you to explore the life of one of America’s greatest and most complex leaders.

Note The Spirit of Norfolk was destroyed in a fire but the parent company is replacing it with another boat. It will be available for our reunion.

Your 2-hour cruise begins as a Shipmate escorts you to your candlelit table. Order drinks, then feel free to explore the ship as the crew cast off on the Elizabeth River.

The Shipmates invite you to an attended grand lunch buffet, freshly prepared on-board. Take as much or as little as you like and savor your selections as the sights of Norfolk glide by.

After lunch, take your drinks topside and relax on the best outdoor patio deck in the city.  After you have relaxed over coffee and dessert, take a refreshing stroll around the ship’s decks and listen to relaxing background music as you take in everything Norfolk has to offer.
